Curtin Volunteers! Remote and Indigenous Program

Author: Minara | Date: 06/11/2019

Curtin Volunteers! is a volunteering hub based at Curtin University in Western Australia that provides volunteering and leadership opportunities to enhance student experience and skill and benefit the wider community.  The Remote and Indigenous program includes partnerships developed with the Laverton and Leonora communities in the northern Goldfields where volunteers travel to these remote communities to assist with school activities and holiday programs, youth engagement and local events.

With regular trips to the region throughout the year, the Curtin Volunteers! assist in the running of many youth services school holiday programs, keeping youth occupied in a safe and engaging environment.  The volunteers gain further understanding of local cultures and traditions and develop awareness of life in a remote community.

With our Murin Murrin operations situated between the communities of Laverton and Leonora, we have been actively involved with this program since around 2008, providing in-kind support and funding assistance through our community program and our Minara Community Foundation.
